Where can I buy?
Hellion Toys will only be available online in 2019
What is the turn around time from order placement to delivery?
We design and make everything in-house. Unless bought from the ‘in stock’ section of the shop, we custom make each toy to order on a rolling 14 working day turn around time. If the item is in stock, we aim to post the next day when possible. We have designated days where we work on particular parts or aspects of the maker process and this does influence overall turn around times.
If you have a deadline or need an item urgently, just drop us an email and we will endeavour to accommodate reasonable requests.
Where are Hellion Toys made?
We are British Toymakers. We are based in the Forest of Bowland, inside the beautiful Ribble Valley. We design and make all our toys in the local area. We shop local and all our supplies are sourced from independent stores within a 20-mile radius too.
How are Hellion Toys made?
Hellion Toys use innovative 3D printing and digital fabrication tools. Our British toys are locally made using innovative processes that result in precision, strength and excellence (while keeping wastage and our carbon footprint low!).
Are these toys made sustainably?
Yes. We only craft using sustainably sourced and premium quality base materials. We use FSC certified engineered birch,
that has been thoughtfully selected due to having the lowest emissions rating possible. As a natural material, the appearance does vary piece by piece and may arrive with micro knots or voids.
In keeping with low emissions, we use super eco mineral paints and VOC free water-based finishes. These are wipeable and durable for small sticky fingers.
Do you safety test your toys?
Although we custom make each toy to your specifications, we take safety very seriously. All our toys have been independently lab safety tested for EN71 standards and CE certified as safe.
We ensure our activity toys are tested as (EN71-8) Activity toys too. Unlike most bow mounted toys available, our Hellix Collection is actually tested multifunctionally.
Do you take commissions?
Yes, we do. We have built many items of custom children’s furniture already this year such as cots, cabin beds, tables ect. we even have a dedicated website focused on this work www.helliondesigns.co.uk
How can I best care for my toy?
It is natural for wooden toys to take on pleasing characteristics and marks of play. This certainly includes dirty marks. Thankfully. All our toys are finished with a VOC free and EN71 certified varnish, which is wipeable with a damp cloth. You may apply spot apply small amounts of non-abrasive soaps for very dirty marks.
Once cleaned, any moisture should be removed immediately with a dry cloth and the toy should be allowed to air dry. We will be writing a full care guide and placing it on our blog soon, to see if we can help with more challenging cleaning scenarios.
Please always remember. Wooden toys really do not like damp or water. Submersion or exposure to water can cause the wood to swell and distort.
What are your turn around and shipping times?
We run a 14 working day turn around time as standard. We endeavour to get items out much quicker, whenever possible.
We typically post our orders out twice a week, on a Monday or Friday, using either our village post office or a carbon neutral courier.
Can you expedite orders for next day delivery?
We do have limited stock in on certain items and maybe able to post orders with a 24/48 hour time frame. Please do get in touch prior to buying your toy if you need it quickly, in order to avoid disappointment.
Where do you post to?
We offer delivery free, over £100 to all UK addresses. We also post to the European Union. Our toys are not safety tested for any other countries at present and we will therefore not ship outside of these regions.
Can I collect my order?
We are based in the Forest of Bowland. If you would like to collect your order, select local delivery or collection at check out and we will reach out to discuss arrangements.
Do you accept returns?
We endeavour to make excellent quality toys that bring joy. However, in the unlikely event you are not happy with your toy, please get in touch. We are happy to refund when the item arrives and we will help rectify any problems rapidly.
Sadly we cannot accept returns on bespoke made and custom orders at the moment, ie. toys that are custom dyed or engraved to order. We rely on you to ensure your engravings have correctly spellings.
If your item arrives damaged or faulty, we will be able to help too. Please see our full returns policy for details.
Do you have ways of spreading the cost of purchase?
Yes. We offer you a range of layaway options as part of our service. Once you have paid in full, we will craft and send your item. This option provided independently by ‘Partial.ly’ can be selected on each product page on any order automatically over £70.
What are your data and privacy practices?
Will you assist us with our charity work?
We are passionate about helping charities and do so whenever we can. We do however get an unmanageable amount of requests for donations in relation to our size and capacity as a small indie outfit. Unable to pick and choose through these requests, any charitable work is now only initiated by ourselves.
Im a cool maker/photographer/artist, do you want to collaborate?
Yes! Please do get in touch with your ideas, how you see us working together and we will take it from there. Please be aware that due to how busy we are, we require a generous leadtime before launch!
Do you work for free exposure and reviews?
We cannot work for free exposure and these requests will from April 2018 go ignored.
We believe everyone involved in an exposure-related activity really needs to be adequately compensated for their time and experience, in an ethos of mutual respect. Working for exposure alone for us is unsustainable practice for our little growing organisation.
Are you looking for Brand Representatives?
We only have a Brand Ambassador program running at present. You can read more about it here
Do you teach toymaking and can we tour your workshop?
It is wonderful that you are interested in digital craft and toymaking. We are really very passionate too! Selina is not currently teaching design/ craft or digital fabrication at present however but may do so in the future via workshops.
In the meantime, please respect boundaries and do not ask about our making process or for other business sensitive information. Hellion Toys is how we make our living and we need to protect it. We will only discuss our making process in any detail, if we choose to selectively undertake commissions.
