While at first glance a simple design, the 100 dots board presents perfectly mathematically aligned resource that can be used with ever-increasing amounts of complexity. Starting with counting, the board can enable a child to explore quantity and move onto more complex number work such as addition, multiplications, patterns and sequences. By using natural found resources as pictured, the board can act as a platform for examination and exploring the natural world too. Gathering items found in our everyday world help facilitate the conversations between STEM subjects, such as biology, nature-inspired technology and Biomimicry.  Finally, add in a scoop or tweezers to support the development of the tripod grip and nurture those crucial fine motor skills towards handwriting.

Item is handcrafted in the Forest of Bowland, UK. Measures 30cmx 30cmx18mm. Made from locally sourced super eco-materials and is free from plastics, VOC’s or any nasties.  Listing is for the board only. Accessories for inspiration and not included.

Description

Handcrafted in Britain

All toys are designed and crafted by me, Dr Hellion. I take my role and responsibilities within the Heritage craft of toymaking seriously. I aim to keep a low carbon footprint by sourcing materials locally from other independent businesses, typically within 20 miles of my workshop. I also avoid petroleum-derived paints, finishes and plastics of any kind. My collection is entirely plastic-free, solvent-free, VOCs-Free and BPA-free. My toys are vegan-friendly and gentle to the natural environment.

Uniquely Made

All of our toys are one of a kind creations made from naturally grown materials. Each toy is unique as a result and will have subtle variations from one piece to the next. The wood will have grain, knots, and natural markings. It will absorb paint, varnish and dyes differently as a result. You may also see brushstrokes, uneven lines and elements that add to the character of your toy.

Crafted to Last

We like to celebrate the unique nature of each, and every single quality toy made. As well as the desirability that goes with the knowledge that you are buying a one-off, handcrafted item. To protect these unique toys, a special eco finish is applied. It does not contain any harmful chemicals to force it to dry quickly. Instead, the finish will continue to harden naturally over several weeks and you will feel this process when you handle the toy.

Affliations

I am a fully insured toymaker and all my toys are independently lab safety tested and certified CE. As a testament to my quality and safety commitments, I am a Member of the British Toymakers Guild and Heritage Craft Association. Hellion Toys is proud to be a member and support the aims and objectives of the trade organisation ACID (Anti Copying in Design). All Hellion Toys designs are supported by ACID through their IP Databank and ACID Marketplace.

Love love love this board Such a versatile board - maybe one of my favourite buys as I love playing with it too. With the toddler we use it to grasp the concept of quantities and counting, but also making patterns. I love using it with felt balls to simply line them up, make patterns in a quiet & mindul manner - love also the sensation of wood and felt.
